Harry J. Heater, 87, Spring City, PA Harry J. Heater, 87, beloved husband of the late Helen Heater, of Spring City, died peacefully at home on Monday, June 27, 2016. Born in Port Jervis, NY, but living across the Delaware River on Heater’s Hill in Matamoras, PA, he was the son of James and Dorothy (Dunlop) Heater. Mr. Heater resided in Spring City, East Vincent Township since 1965. Raised in Matamoras, PA and then East Rutherford, NJ, he graduated from East Rutherford High School. Joining the U.S. Army in early 1945, he served in WW-II, the Korean War, and 2 Tours in Vietnam as an Airborne Combat Medic. SFC Heater was stationed at many installations throughout the country, and in Japan and Germany. After being assigned to the Valley Forge Army Hospital and retiring in 1969, Harry signed on as a Postman at the Spring City Post Office where he served his community until his retirement in 1990. Besides being involved in community youth sports, and being a regional legend on the area’s bowling lanes, he was also a lifetime member of the American Legion and the VFW. Mr. Heater was a devoted father to his five children; James Harry, husband of Linda Heater of St. Peters, Sherrie Rupert of Spring City, Keith, husband of Delia of East Coventry, Dawn Heater of Spring City and April, wife of Rod Becker of North Coventry; Harry was also a “Pop” to his eight grandchildren Mark, Katie, Brett, James, Jessica, Rebecca, Kevin and Kyle. And he was a proud great-grandfather to Riot James and Logan William. Harry is survived by a sister, Linda Taormina of East Rutherford, NJ. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Helen (Bolton) Heater and his sister, Doris Graham. His funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 6, 2016, at 11:00a.m., at the Shalkop Grace & Strunk Funeral Home, 135 Bridge and Church Sts., Spring City, PA. Burial will follow immediately at the Limerick Garden of Memories. Viewing for family and friends will be held on Tuesday evening, July 5, 2016, at 6:30 – 8:00p.m. and also the morning prior to the ceremony, from 9:30-11:00a.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to: Norchester Red Knights, 88 Glocker Way, Box 273, Pottstown, PA 19465.
