The by-now iconic "Two Acre Zoning". (Sorry, Anita: a terrible photo of a wonderful painting.) Note to anyone who hasn't seen the original: if you see it close up it appears to be an abstract mix of color; as you walk away from it, you recognize exactly where it is. The title makes you shudder each time you recall it. The painting makes you wonder how on earth he did it.
Steve called this "Dance of the Suburbanites". (He could be so bad!) Three decades later, it is still my favorite painting - and it is the one possession I would rescue in the event of a fire.
"Detail from the "Infinite Worktable with Perfect Light"" Steve painted this after a conversation we had about creating an ideal carpentry shop. It is a gift of wit and affection which I have and will always treasure.
