Deborah L. Merroth-Ahola

Deborah  L. Merroth-Ahola, 71, Collegeville

Deborah Merroth-Ahola 71, beloved wife, mother, sister and friend passed away from lung cancer on Wednesday, March 25th. 2026 at Phoenixville Hospital.

Deborah was one of four children, Deb was born on June 16, 1954 in Phoenixville to the late Jean (Strickland) and David Merroth. The Merroth family lived in a Chester County farming community next to her grandparents, but farming was not for her.

Deb graduated from Owen J. Roberts High School in 1972 and chose to pursue a career in education. She earned an education degree from Elizabethtown College in 1976 and earned a doctorate degree from Immaculata University in 2002.

Deb worked briefly as a social worker after she graduated from Elizabethtown College. She began her teaching career at Owen J Roberts school district. Deborah was a devoted teacher and mentor within Owen J Roberts. She retired from Owen J Roberts in 2013. After her retirement she began working at the Kimberton Waldorf School as the high school coordinator. Deborah was incredibly passionate about special needs children. Deborah made sure that they were included and had access to support.

Deborah was a long-standing member of St John’s Lutheran Church in Phoenixville PA. Deborah was active as an assistant minister. Deborah used her incredible talent as a public speaker to assist with lectoring during church services. She was always available to help whenever she was needed.

Deborah enjoyed socializing with friends, participating in book clubs, volunteering within the community and visiting friends and family up and down the east coast. Deborah also enjoyed spending time at the beach. Deborah went with her son to vacation in Paris and Florence to visit a family friend in 2012. Deborah enjoyed trying new types of foods and exploring the museums of Paris and Florence. 

Deborah is survived by her devoted husband William (Bill) Ahola, son Samuel (Sam) Ahola, brother Stephen Merroth and his wife Nancy Merroth. Deborah also has nieces Lauren and Kelly Merroth along with Jennifer and John Merroth. She was predeceased by her brother Thomas and Micheal Merroth.

A memorial service will be held: April 18th at 11:00 AM at St. John’s Lutheran Church 355 St. John’s Circle, Phoenixville.  Visitation prior to the service will be from 9:30-10:45am. Friends are also invited to attend a visitation from 6-8pm at the R. Strunk funeral home, 400 Main Street, Phoenixville, PA 19460 on Friday evening April 17th.
