In Loving Memory of
Zanzel B. Rodgers
March 4, 1963 – March 31, 2025
Zanzel B. Rodgers, beloved daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, peacefully departed this life to be with her Heavenly Father on March 31, 2025. Born on March 4, 1963, Zanzel was the second child of the late Rev. James Thomas Rodgers and Rev. Mildred Gloria Williams Rodgers. She was one of four children blessed by their loving union. From an early age, Zanzel demonstrated a deep love for God and was saved as a young girl at Canaan Baptist Church, where her faith became a guiding light throughout her life. Her beautiful voice graced many church choirs and talent shows, a reflection of her joy in sharing her gifts.
Zanzel received her education through the Philadelphia public school system, attending John B. Kelly School, where she had the unique opportunity to meet Grace Kelly during a school-hosted concert. She continued her academic journey at Masterman and later became a proud member of the 225th graduating class of Girl’s High School. Zanzel went on to attend Howard University, where she earned her degree in Electrical Engineering—a proud accomplishment that led to her cousin, Michael Robinson, to receive a scholarship in her honor and legacy.
A trailblazer in her field, Zanzel built an impressive career as an engineer at the Department of the Navy, where she worked with distinction for 38 years. Her work often took her across the country, traveling an average of 18 days a month, always representing excellence and dedication in her profession. Zanzel’s creativity and love for crafting brought joy to those around her, and she was known for her thoughtful spirit and quiet strength.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. James Thomas and Rev. Mildred Gloria Rodgers, and her beloved older sister, Rodze James Rodgers-Guy. Zanzel leaves behind to cherish her memory her sister Razan Thomas Rodgers, brother James Tracy Rodgers, dear Aunt Cynthia Rodgers, and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends whose lives were forever touched by her grace and generosity. Zanzel’s legacy of faith, intelligence, and kindness will live on in all who knew and loved her.
“Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a few things; I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your Lord.” — Matthew 25:23 (NKJV)
