Obituary for Alice Jean Matthes
Alice Jean Matthes, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away on June 3, 2025, at the age of 80. Born on March 23, 1945 in San Francisco, California, Alice spent her younger years of life on Long Island, New York, where she graduated from Farmingdale High School.
After marriage, she moved to Pennsylvania to spend the rest of her years, raising and loving her family. Throughout her life, Alice, known to many as Jean, Jeannie or Nana, graciously gave an unconditional demonstration of love which emanated from her warm, generous spirit to all she encountered.
Alice found joy and happiness in each day of her life. She loved plants, flowers, gardening, reading, knitting, cooking, sharing meals and spending quality time with her family. She had a passion to travel and was always eager to explore and create new experiences.
While her children were of school age, she spent time volunteering and teaching Sunday school at St. Titus Parish. She had a smile that would light up a room, a spirit that was always filled with wisdom and comfort, and a tender, giving heart that never stopped giving.
Above all, Alice cherished her role as a grandmother. Her four grandchildren—Avery Grace Matthes, Stephen John Yurick IV, Emma Anne Yurick, and Audrey Reese Matthes—were the light of her life.
She poured endless love and dedication into them, and created memories that will live on for generations. Alice had a deep belief in GOD which enabled her to display a natural ability to love, comfort, and provide wisdom to all that sought an ear or need.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Albert Matthes; her two loving children, son Scott Matthes, his wife Jessica Matthes, beloved daughter Kelly Yurick, her husband Stephen John Yurick III; and her four adored grandchildren.
A visitation with family and friends will be held on Monday, June 9, 2025 at 1:00PM at R. Strunk Funeral Home, 400 Main Street, Phoenixville, PA 19460. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 PM.
