John Joseph “Jay” Leary, 69, of Pottstown

John Joseph “Jay” Leary, 69, loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at Chester County Hospital.

Born April 14, 1956, in Quincy, Massachusetts, he was the son of John “Jack” Joseph Leary and the late Maureen (Cook) Leary. Jay was the oldest of six children. He graduated from North Quincy High School and went on to serve proudly in the United States Air Force as an airplane mechanic, specializing in work on F-15 aircraft.

Jay married Dr. Mary Ann Leary, and together they shared a life filled with adventure and travel. They especially enjoyed visits to the Disney World Parks in Florida and cruising—most recently taking memorable trips to Alaska and Australia, where they swam with stingrays and turtles.

After serving his country, Jay worked for 30 years with the United States Postal Service, where he also served as a Union Steward for the Postal Workers.  Jay was an avid football fan and found great peace and enjoyment in his “Man Cave” RV at Spring Gulch Camping Resort, a place he visited often.

Jay is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Ziemba Leary; his father, Jack Joseph Leary; and his children: John Joseph Leary (Mary), James Edward Leary (Cassandra), Devon Nichole Leary, Allison Nicole Taylor (Garrett), and Jayson Michael Leary. He is also survived by his siblings: Michael Leary (Anne), Renee Leary Jago (Mark), Mark Leary (Lynda), Patrick Leary (Sue), and Paul Leary (Lisa); and by his cherished grandchildren: Alanna Noel Leary, Zachery Tyler Leary, John Joseph Leary, Clare Elizabeth Leary, Ava Marie Langer, and Lorriana Rose Leary. Jay will also be missed by his beloved dogs, Kendell and Sandy.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, November 20, at Shalkop, Grace & Strunk Funeral Home, 135 Bridge Street, Spring City. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM. An additional visitation with the family will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, November 19, also at Shalkop, Grace & Strunk Funeral Home.
