Obituary of John E Vandegrift

John E. Vandegrift, of Royersford, PA

John E. Vandegrift, beloved husband of Dawn Vandegrift, passed away on Sunday, January 25, 2026, at Pottstown Hospital after a long, hard fought battle with pulmonary fibrosis and more recently, lung cancer. He was surrounded by love after a life well lived.

Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, John was the son of the late Lester and Ruth (Wells) Vandegrift. He attended Murrell Dobbins Technical High School in Philadelphia. In his younger years, John enjoyed skiing and ice hockey and was an avid  golfer.

John dedicated many years of his career to envelope manufacturing, retiring as a Maintenance Supervisor. Following his retirement, he remained active by working part-time as a school bus driver with Custer's Garage Inc.

John and Dawn shared 53 wonderful years together. He cherished traveling, especially spending time at the Outer Banks as well as the Poconos, and was a devoted Philadelphia Eagles fan. John had a special love for dogs, especially Rottweilers, and will be sadly missed by his faithful friend, his dog Petey. John treasured his weekly Friday evening dinners with Dawn at Moccia’s, a tradition that brought him great joy.

In addition to his loving wife, Dawn, John is survived by his daughter, Lisa Shore (Gordon); his granddaughter, Angel; his son John (Theresa), his son Robert (Susan); his son, Russell; his sister, Geraldine Feinstein; and his brother, William Vandegrift (Colleen); cousins William (Judy) Vandegrift and Louise Kennedy; sister-in-law Debra Kaczmar and brothers-in-law Ronald Csanadi, Stephen Csanadi, Chris and Curt Kressley; as well as grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

There will be a Celebration of John's Life at the American Legion Post 602, 25 N. Main Street, Spring City, PA 19475 on Sunday, February 22, 2026 from 2-4 PM.
