Obituary of William H. Burkhart

William H. “Bill” Burkhart, 79, passed away peacefully in Phoenixville Hospital in Pennsylvania, February 27, 2026.

Born on October 26, 1946, in Altoona, Pennsylvania to the late George and Kathleen (O’Neill) Burkhart.  He graduated from Cresson Joint High School in 1964, served in the United States Marines from 1966 to 1967 and proudly served in Vietnam. After Vietnam, he returned home and married Mary Kay (Hammond) Burkhart (later divorced) and had 2 daughters (Renee and Julie). He lived in Maryland his entire working career with the United States Government at the former Defense Mapping Agency. Upon retirement he moved to Lansdale, PA with his partner, Barbara Reimers. In October 2024 he moved to the Veteran’s home in Spring City. PA.   

Bill will be remembered by his family for his kindness and generosity as well as quick wit and sarcasm.  He will forever be known as the man who never met a stranger.  He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren as well as going to the casino and going to breakfast with his brother and sister.

He is proceeded in death by his parents, George and Kathleen (O’Neill) Burkhart. He is survived by his daughters Renee Burkhart and Julie (Burkhart) Keyser (Daniel) of Frederick, MD; and his cherished grandchildren, Andrew and Abigial Keyser. He is also survived by his siblings: Janice Ruth, Patty Salpino, George Burkhart and Teresa Wilde.
