Please share a memory of Gerald to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Gerald “Jerry” Martin, Jr., 69, widower of Jane Martin, passed away Friday, April 17, 2026, at home in Spring City Pa.

He was one of four children, born Feb. 9, 1957, in Springfield, Mass., to Gerald Martin Sr. and Linda (Knighton). Jerry served in the U.S. Navy and spent most of his life in Massachusetts.

Jerry was proud to be your friend. In conversation, he wanted mostly to ask questions about you and your life. Often, most of what he said about himself wasn’t even about himself; it was about the other folks in his life. He cared about them and was proud of them. If you were part of the conversation, he chatted you up; if you weren’t, he talked you up.

He was a bad-jokester and a good conversationalist. You could tell him you were, say, tired or hungry or happy, but you would get “Hi, I’m Jerry” in response.

Part of that love for connecting with others came from his firm belief in and appreciation for the free flow of information. That came across in his passion for technology, which he used to share photos of friends and family, and it was present in the music he loved and the form that music took. He loved the Grateful Dead, Frank Zappa, Phish, Umphrey's McGee, Santana, Little Feat, Max Creek and so many others, and he loved diving into their shows on archive.org. Chances are good that one of the longest songs someone has ever recommended you came from him.

He shared so many things in addition to music. He had an endless well of links, most of which were jokes that suited his humor and some that he added his own quips to.

As much as he was happy to be engaged with and up to speed on the technology around him, he also loved to unwind in nature, almost always in sandals. He loved to rock climb in his youth and kept on fishing, hiking, biking and camping as he aged, finding peace in his vacations to Maine. As he got older, he liked to clear his mind by going for a drive, often ending up at Wawa for coffee, and blasting his music.

When he wasn’t using his car as a meditative space, he was happy to work on it. And, like most of his other hobbies, knowledge and passions, he was even happier to share that skillset to help others.

Jerry’s spirit will carry on through his children Gerald “Jay” Martin III (Elizabeth), Cassidy (Tyler Pecyna) Martin and Cody Martin; his grandchildren Aiden and Lilith; his siblings Thomas Martin, Lori Fontaine (Rene) and Anthony Calabrese; his stepfather, Anthony Calabrese Sr.; his in-laws Nancy and Richard Osgood; and his animal friends Barlow, Meatball, Deakin, Isley and Charlie. He is preceded in death by his wife, mother and father.

Jerry’s loved ones will honor his memory with a ceremony in the coming weeks. Donations can be made through the family’s InKind page. Strike up a conversation with a stranger in his honor.
