Please share a memory of Margaret to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Margaret L. (Mitchell) Szabo

Margaret L. (Mitchell) Szabo, beloved wife of William "Bill" Szabo of Spring City, Pennsylvania, passed away on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at Paoli Hospital. She was 76 years old.

Margaret was born and raised in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, and was the daughter of the late Calvin and Rita (Sperry) Mitchell.

A 1967 graduate of Phoenixville High School, Margaret had many hobbies and interests through the years. At one time, she was an avid crafter, a pursuit through which she made several life-long friends. She also ran a baking business, providing many Phoenixville area restaurants and residents with a variety of confections. As her family grew, she laid aside recreational and entrepreneurial pursuits to pursue work in office administration. Margaret was employed for many years as a bookkeeper with Christian Concern until her retirement in 2015. During her later career and retirement, she found joy in new pursuits, such as hiking, genealogy, and travel. She was often to be found ambling along local trails, visiting ancestral sites, or scouting out airline deals in hopes of finding her next adventure. Above all else, she cherished spending time with her grandchildren, who brought her immense joy. She was a regular presence at their band concerts, dance recitals, and at various stepping-stone ceremonies. To the children, Margaret was a caregiver, playmate, encourager, and guide. Her grandchildren fondly remember her permissive and generous spirit, and her knack for making the mundane extraordinary. Their favorite memories include making fasnachts together at the start of Lent, going “creek-hopping”, digging in the garden, and discovering what unexpected, yet perfect present “Nana” had picked for each birthday and Christmas.

In addition to her husband, Bill, Margaret is survived by her son, Scott Szabo and his wife, Mikhal; her beloved grandchildren, Augustine, Clara, and Genevieve; and her sister, Pat Curren, widow of John.

She was preceded in death by her siblings, Donna Mitchell and David Mitchell.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her memorial service on Friday, June 12, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, 39 Bonnie Brae Road, Spring City, PA 19475. The Rev. Taylor Walker will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

A visitation will be held at the church on Friday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to charities that were especially close to Margaret's heart due to her family's experiences with loss: the Childhood Leukemia Foundation (CLF4Kids) or the Alzheimer's Association.

Margaret will be remembered for her kindness, devotion to her family, and the love she shared with all who knew her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
