Curtis H. Aberts, Jr., 87 Spring City

Curtis H. Aberts, Jr., 87, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 4, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on April 2, 1939, in Oxford, Pennsylvania, Curtis was the son of the late Curtis H. Aberts, Sr. and Sarah Bennett (Smith) Aberts. After the passing of his father early in his childhood William E. McGinnis lovingly stepped into the role of father and became an important influence throughout Curtis' life.

A proud veteran of the United States Navy, Curtis faithfully served his country for six years. During his military service, he trained as an electrical engineer, a profession that led him to travel extensively while working at nuclear power plants throughout the world. He later retired as an electrical engineer with Allen-Sherman-Hoff.

Curtis was a longtime resident of Chester County and was deeply committed to serving his community. He proudly served as Fire Chief of the Thorndale Fire Company and was a member of the Thomas P. O'Connor VFW Post in Spring City. A devoted member of First United Church of Christ in Spring City, Curtis found great comfort, strength, and support from his church family throughout his battle with cancer.

In 1995, Curtis married the love of his life, Judith "Judy." Their love story began at Phoenix Lanes Bowling Alley, where Curtis not only met Judy but later proposed to her on one of the bowling lanes in front of her family—a memory they cherished for years.

Curtis found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He took great pride in tending his garden and was an enthusiastic model train collector, even incorporating model trains into his outdoor landscaping. Always generous with his time and talents, he was the first person to volunteer to cut down a troublesome tree or help a neighbor with an electrical repair. If someone needed a helping hand, Curtis was always willing to lend one.

He will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Judith "Judy" Aberts; his four children, Nancy Castellano (Stephen), Dorothy L. Barrage (Robert), Christian Finneran, and Justin Finneran (Courtney); his brother, Barry Aberts (Doris); his sister, Sally Martzall (Leon); 12 cherished grandchildren; and 17 beloved great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Curtis was preceded in death by his two sons, David Aberts and Scott Aberts.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Curtis' memory to First United Church of Christ, 145 Chestnut Street, Spring City, PA 19475.
