Obituary of Joseph Richard Anthony Pillar

Joseph Richard Anthony Pillar, 84, passed away peacefully at his South Coventry home on August 13^th surrounded by his family.  Born in Phoenixville, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Veronica (Barnoski) Pillar.  He was married to Cathy (Donah) for 57 years, and was the loving father of five children Jeff Pillar, Beth Metz (Erick), Rebecca Pillar (Kurtis), Jason Pillar, and Kristina Sosnowy (Dave).    “Pops” loved spending time and creating memories with his six grandchildren, Conor, Tyler, Bella, Joli, Layla, and Cali.  He was preceded in death by his two sisters, Rita Bernas and Ellie Lynch.

Joe proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1961-1965 and held many jobs throughout his life including working for Firestone, Met-Ed, Pennhurst, and Gross School Bus Service.    A devout Catholic, he was a faithful member of St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church for over 50 years.   Joe was an avid Philly sports fan and especially enjoyed watching and attending Eagles’ games.  You could find him every Thursday enjoying prime rib at Shady Maple.  Joe enjoyed being outside, mowing his grass, and doing yardwork, but above all, his greatest joy was his family.  

A funeral mass will be offered by Rev. Charles O'Hara at St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, August 25, 2026 2101 Pottstown Pike Pottstown PA 19465 . Friends and family are invited to greet the family from 10:00 AM - 10:45 AM. He will receive a military burial at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery following the funeral mass.   Arrangements are being made by Shalkop Grace & Strunk Funeral Home.
