Obituary of Harvey J Gennaria

Harvey J. Gennaria, age 88, husband of Caroline (Turssline) Gennaria of Royersford, PA died on Wednesday June 8, 2011 in the Phoenixville Hospital. He was born in Yerkes, PA a son to the late Henry and Edna (Emery) Gennaria. Mr. Gennaria resided most of his life in Royersford, he attended Oak and Upper Providence Schools and graduated from Collegeville-Trappe High School in 1942. Served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Atlantic and Pacific Theatres. Also served in the Navy during the Korean War stationed in New Port, RI and served eight years in the Naval Reserve in Reading, PA. Harvey worked at the former Bechtel's Dairy and Diamond Glass and in the early 50's then worked at the Royersford Post Office, where he was the last Rural Carrier out of Royersford, he retired in 1979. He worked part time at the former Patriot Bank. He volunteered since 1980 at the Montgomery County Geriatric Center and helped organize the whole Scout Family at Sacred Heart Church and served as Scout Master, Explorer Advisor and several District positions. He was also the holder of the St. George award and the Order of the Merit. In 1970 he was the recipient of the G. Kenneth Smith Memorial Award for outstanding community service by the Spring Ford Jaycees. Life member the V FW Post 7155 of Trappe, held offices of Commander, Adjutant, Quartermaster and was treasurer of the Veterans Home Association for twenty five years. Life member of the Liberty Fire Co, Spring City, Friendship Fire Co, of Royersford, Limerick Historical Society, Trappe Historical Society and Spring Ford Historical Society. Member of the Spring ford Philatelic Society and a member the Keystone Grange # 2 Trappe, and sixty year member of the Order of the Odd Fellows Vincent Lodge # 762, Spring City, and bowled with the Young at Heart League at Limerick Bowl. In addition to his wife he is survived by daughter; Patricia Marie wife of Thomas Weikel of Royersford, son: Michael Henry husband of Jane Gennaria of Parkerford, PA. four grandchildren: Karen, Thomas Jr. ,Cara, Kimberly and fourteen great grandchildren. And sisters; Doris Moyer wife of Merril of Telford, PA, Irene Reiter wife of Joseph of Zeiglersville; Brothers: Harold A. Gennaria husband of Lois Gennaria of Barto and the late Robert E.Gennaria husband of June Gennaria of CA. His funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday at 11:00 a m at Sacred Heart Church Lewis Road and Walnut Street Royersford. The Rev. Peter DiMaria will officiate. Burial will be held privately in the Limerick Garden of Memories. His viewing will be held Sunday evening from 6-8pm at the Shalkop Grace & Strunk Funeral Home, Bridge and Church Streets Spring City.
