Obituary of Jesse Dean Halteman

Jesse Dean Halteman, 97, New Holland Jesse Dean Halteman, formerly of Star Route, Pottstown, died Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at home. She was the widow of Dr. George E. Halteman, DC, who died January 4, 2007. Dean was born in Winston Salem, NC, November 12, 1915, to the late Lloyd and Emma (Alexander) Smithey. She was 97 years old. She graduated as valedictorian of her high school class and attended beauty school and worked as a beautician until her marriage in 1934. Her hobbies included gardening, sewing, cooking, and entertaining family and friends. She attended The Coventry Hills Church of Christ until she moved from Pottstown, PA to New Holland, PA in 2012. Dean is survived by four children, Dr. Lloyd Halteman, DC, husband of Angel of Reading, PA; Geraldine Fisher, MA, who shared a home with her mother for the last year of her life; Dr. Linda Halteman Lewis, DC, wife of Steve of Steamboat Springs, CO; Beth Halteman Harwell, PhD, wife of Samuel Harwell IV of Nashville, TN; 18 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. She is predeceased by a son: George Benton Halteman husband of Myrna of Boulder City, NV. Dean's passion was enjoying her family who often gathered at her home. She is remembered for Thanksgiving Dinner and the turkey that all 40 family members gathered from California to Florida to enjoy. Truly a Proverbs 31 woman, she exemplified grace, service, strength, and love. Jessie Dean lived by the Golden Rule and inspired her family to carry her example.
