I first met Matt in 1985 when I was transferred from Budd Trailer to Budd Polychem in Phoenixville. At the time Matt was in the Union and was a Union representative. Matt took his job seriously and the welfare and fairness of his fellow employees was important to him and he served them with pride and integrity. In the 18 years in Phoenixville Matt and I became friends as well as co-workers and Polychem grew and prospered. In 2003 when Polychem was purchased by Brentwood Industries it was no surprise that his Supervisor at the time, Dave Dalziel, elected to take Matt to Reading with him. Matt's knowledge of shipping and receiving, his strong work ethic and his dedication to Polychem made the choice easy. When Dave retired Matt became the Supervisor for a warehouse handling in excess of $12M of material yearly and he accepted the challenge without hesitation. He continued to grow, supervising 6-8 employees while being responsible for meeting domestic and international shipment dates that sometimes appeared impossible, but Matt got it done. Matt was the go to guy when things would get tough nearing the end of the fiscal year and everybody needed something shipped. His vast knowledge of containerized shipping helped make Brentwood a force to be dealt with in the China market and our on time shipping record was an amazing 98.5%, almost unheard of in this industry. Aside from all of this Matt kept his family first and would often talk about things that they had done. I retired in January of 2020 after 35 years with Polychem, but who was still there, still answering the call each morning and still meeting me with a smile each time I had to ask him for a favor, MATT JOHNSON.
I offer my sincere condolences to Brenda and the family, Matt was a friend and he will be remembered for a long time. I offer words from an unknown source but they are words that I will remember Matt by: "Don't cry because its over, smile because it happened". I am a better person for knowing him, Rest in peace Matthew, may the Lord bless and keep you.

By the way, somewhere on that wall of trains is a small engine and coal tender that I gave Matt many many years ago. Being from West Virginia Matt and I would talk about the old coal fired behemoth's that belched fire and steam pulling the 100 long coal cars to the steel mills in the north and south. Matt would have made a great engineer.
