Obituary of John S. Miller

John S. Miller, age 78, loving husband of Marilyn (Howard) Miller, of Phoenixville died on Wednesday May 25, 2022, in the Paoli Hospital.
Born in Pottstown PA John was the son of the late George D. Miller and Jean (Ferguson) Miller. John was raised in Spring City having graduated in 1961 from Spring Ford High School where he excelled in Football and baseball.
He then attended and graduated from Temple University with a degree in education and economics, followed by a master’s degree from West Chester University. John taught history at Ridley High School for 38 years until his retirement.
John was an avid Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles fan. An avid reader, he would often have multiple books going at a time and was always working on his crossword puzzles. He also enjoyed sneaking off for hours to his “stamp room”. He loved teaching and coaching. John coached baseball at Ridley High School and at the Phoenixville Babe Ruth League. After retirement he continued helping others learn by volunteering at Grimes church across the street from his home.
His greatest joy was spending time with family, whether it was cocktails on the front porch or at the beach in Cape May. He was happiest when he was with his children, granddaughter, and his high school sweetheart wife.
He was a member of St. Ann’s Church (Phoenixville).
In addition to his wife of 55 years he is survived by daughter: Jennifer (Christopher) Kelly, and a son: Matthew (Diane) Miller and a granddaughter: Grace Moser, and brother: Charles “Cotton” Miller. he is preceded in death by a son: Michael Miller. And a brother: Dr. Geoffrey Miller.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral mass on Friday 6/3/2022 at 10:30am at the St. Ann’s Church 502 main St. Phoenixville PA 19460. The Rev. John Newns will officiate, burial to follow in the Philadelphia memorial Park Frazer. Visitation will be held Thursday evening in the R. Strunk Funeral Home 400 Main St. Phoenixville 6-7:30pm and on Friday morning at the church 9:30-10:30am.
