Obituary of George A. Sheetz

Please share a memory of George to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

George  A. Sheetz, 85, Spring City

George Sheetz, 85,  husband to Theresa (Morgan) Sheetz, passed away Friday April 7, 2023 in the Phoenixville Hospital.

One of five children, George was born June 10, 1937 in Shamokin to the late  Albert and the late Tillie (Shicora) Sheetz.    A 1955 graduate of Shamokin High School, George moved to the Spring City area and married the love of his life, Theresa.  They had four children and were faithful members of the St. Joseph’s RC Church.  George retired from AMT in 2003 where he was employed for thirty years as a machinist.  George was very active in the community and enjoyed playing pool with the Schuylkill Valley Pool League for over 40 years, serving as a pool team caption on numerous occasions. He was also a bowler, a member of a dart league and he won the Tom’s Bar and Grille quoits tournament in the late 1970’s. He was a big fan of popular music from the mid-1950’s onward and over the years he brought home many records for himself and his family, sparking a lifelong love of music in all his children.   He loved to do the daily crossword and mow the lawn every week.  He was an extra in “The Blob”. He was a good mechanic, too.

George is survived by his wife, Theresa Morgan Sheetz; sons:  Charles Sheetz (husband of Tiger Bela); Paul Sheetz, Albert Sheetz; daughter:  Tina Wheeler (wife of the late Tim Wheeler); three brothers:  Edward, Robert and Paul Sheetz and sister Alberta Gillespie.  He is preceded in death by his grandson:  Sean Axel Wheeler

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:15 AM Friday April 14 in St. Joseph RC Church, 3640 Schuylkill Road, Spring City with Rev. Charles O'Hara officiating.

Visitation at the Church will be from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM Friday, April 14 prior to the service at St. Joseph RC Church.
