Isla Luise Holding, 90, Spring City

Isla Holding, 90,  widow of the late Winston Balfour Holding, passed away Thursday October 5, 2023 in the Phoenixville Hospital. One of three children, born October 15, 1932 in Maracaibo, Venezuela to the late Peter and the late Ivy (Lewis) Soas. The Soas family moved to Jamacia, West Indes where she was raised and eventually, as a young adult moved to Brooklyn, New York. 

Isla fell in love with Winston Balfour Holding and they married and had three children.  She was devoted to raising a family and was instrumental in being a support to her children, including her daughter as she established her medical practice.  Isla was her office manager until 2004.

In her retirement she enjoyed reading.  Isla was always impeccably dressed and enjoyed fashion.  Arranging flowers brought her joy and she enjoyed her stashes of sweets.

The loss of this matriarch is being felt by her three children:  Michele Holding, MD, Lisa Holding-Heimbach and Winston B. Holding II; her brother in Jamacia, Dr. John Soas, MD; and a grandson:  Antoine Lamar (wife Kyra) and great-grandson; Marcus Lamar.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 2PM in St. Joseph RC Church, 3640 Schuylkill Road, Spring City with Rev. Charles O'Hara officiating.

Visitation prior to the Mass will be from 1-2 PM prior to the service at St. Joseph RC Church.
