George M. Henderson, age 76 of Limerick, PA formerly of Collegeville, PA died on Friday April 5, 2024 in the Jefferson Einstein Montgomery Hospital, East Norriton.

Born in Norristown to the late Charles and Lillian (McCormick) Henderson. George resided most of his life in Collegeville, he was a 1966 graduate of the former Collegeville Trappe High School where he played football. A dedicated Patriot, George was a Veteran of the U.S. Army serving two tours in the Vietnam War. He then went back to Vietnam from 1971-1975 as a private contractor in telecommunications.

Upon coming home from Vietnam, he was employed for the Merck Pharmaceutical Company in telecommunications until his retirement in 2007. George especially loved the Trappe and Collegeville area.  A man of courage, he was active in his community serving as a Volunteer Fire fighter with the Trappe Fire department and was a medic with Trappe Ambulance. He served as President of Trappe Ambulance for many years. He didn’t miss a fire call and continued to listen to every emergency call even when he couldn’t go “Out” on a call.  George was the first life member of the Trappe Fire department.

Detail oriented and conscientious George served as Treasurer for the Trappe VFW. He loved his friendships that were developed as he was a member of the Trappe VFW, Royersford VFW, Friendship Hook and Ladder Fire Company (Royersford).

In 2007 George began helping and became a member of the family of the Shalkop Grace & Strunk and R. Strunk Funeral Homes, He had a compassionate heart and empathy for those that lost their loved ones.

An avid Eagles Fan and season ticket holder for many years. George loved to watch the weekly games and sometimes even went.  He loved to travel, taking cruises, and various trips with friends and family. George owned an RV and camped, taking many memorable trips for weekends and weeks at a time.

A family man, George was affectionately known as “Pappy”. He devoted time with his family, especially his grandchildren and never wanted to miss their sporting events. They were his pride and joy.

George’s kind and light hearted spirit leaves a large hole.  He will be sorely missed by all of his family and friends.

George is survived by his son: Joe, husband of Rose Anne Henderson; grandchildren: Alexis, Abby, and J.P.; Brother: Charles Henderson (wife, Barbara) and Bonnie Henderson. He is predeceased by his daughter, Pami Henderson.
