Obituary of Peter S. Gill
Peter S. Gill, 90, East Coventry
Peter Gill, 90, husband to Barbara Shermer Gill, passed away Wednesday May 29, 2024 in the Keystone Villas.
One of four children, born September 21, 1933 in Philadelphia to the late Joseph H. and the late Minnie (Merrifield) Gill. Peter graduated from the Murrell Dobbins Vocation Technical High School of Philadelphia. He married the “girl next door” Barbara in 1958. They were committed to being an amazing team and had three children. Peter worked for the Philadelphia Evening Bulletin as a circulation manager, which in 1965 brought them to the Chester County area, where he and Barbara raised their family. Peter managed paper delivery until the Newspaper closed in 1982. Resourceful and devoted to his family, Peter started his own business and worked as a contractor repairing and painting homes, until his retirement.
Known for his amazing tenor voice, Peter sang as a teenager in the Philadelphia Boys Choir and then enjoyed singing in his church choir at Bethel United Methodist Church for many years. As a youth, Peter spent summers at the Calvary Seaside House in Stone Harbor, first as a camper then as a counselor. Later, Peter and his family made many memories at the beach of Stone Harbor where he enjoyed surf fishing. During Retirement, Peter took up golf and made more friends. He and Barbara took several trips and cruises with this active group. Peter was an avid Philadelphia Sports Fan, but his most enjoyable team to celebrate was his family.
