Doris H. Selwitz, a beloved member of the Phoenixville community, passed away peacefully on October 27, 2024, at the age of 96. Born on December 13, 1927, to Warren J. Hallman Sr. and Hannah Elizabeth Hallman (nee Hallman) in Phoenixville, PA. Doris spent her entire life in the town she cherished and served so faithfully.
Doris was an active and devoted member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Phoenixville, where she served as the full-time organist, choir director, and Director of Music from 1976 until her retirement from Director of music in 2009 where she was named Organist Emerita. Her musical talents graced St. John’s for 33 years, touching the hearts of countless congregants. She began her music career as the organist for Central Lutheran Church (now the Historical Society of Phoenixville). She then was the organist and choir director at the former Hungarian Church (now Parkside UCC) prior to going to St. John’s UCC in 1976. Upon her retirement from St. John’s in 2009, she became a long term substitute organist at Parkside UCC until officially retiring from playing the organ in 2017. Doris's love for music and God given talent was evident in everything she did, bringing joy and inspiration to those around her.
Beyond her church and music, Doris enjoyed reading, knitting, and crocheting. She will be deeply missed by her children: Kathleen Woodruff (Herbert), Jane Nechin (Jim), and Mary Louise Miller. Doris was also a proud grandmother to ten grandchildren and a great-grandmother to one.
Doris was predeceased by her husbands, Henry H. Clarke and H. Robert Selwitz; her daughter, Nancy Stock (husband Walter); her sons-in-law, John Richards and
William Miller; and her brother, Warren J. Hallman Jr.
A public graveside interment of ashes will be Saturday, November 23, 2024, 9:00am, at East Vincent UCC, 282 Hill Church Road, Spring City, PA.
A visitation to honor Doris's life will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2024, from 10:15 to 11:00 a.m. at St. John's UCC, 315 Gay Street, Phoenixville, PA followed by a memorial service, led by Pastor Raymond Jachowski, at 11:00 a.m.
