Obituary of John Joseph Schramm
John Joseph Schramm, husband of Dawn (Cockerill) Schramm passed away December 17, 2024 in Blair County. One of five children born to the late Lawrence J. and Elizabeth A. Cuddy Schramm, John was born in Darby PA on March 16, 1970. A graduate of St. James High School, John attended West Chester University where he studied Criminal Justice. He also attended Delaware County receiving an associate's degree in applied science while completing the Delaware County Police Academy. He enlisted in the Marines and served our country as an active reservist. He was Honorably discharged as a Sargent (E5) in 2003. Although he was proud of his service and duty, his greatest accomplishment was as a dad and husband.
John married Dawn in 1999 and moved to Phoenixville to live close to family and his career in the Upper Moreland Police Department. As a well decorated police officer, John took his duty as a calling and loved being an active Police officer. He retired as a Detective in 2021.
An avid hunter and camper, John loved the outdoors. Our cabin home help him keep busy in retirement with lots of projects. He created a beautiful family home for all of us to vacation and relax, though it may have been more of a man cave. Lola, his Old English Bulldog was a trusted companion. In retirement, it was not uncommon for the pair to enjoy a good Star Wars movie and snack, Baby Yoda was his favorite in the franchise. John enjoyed his sweets, “Booths Corner” in Delco was a frequent stop throughout his life. His greatest joy in retirement was traveling to watch and support his girls in all of their endeavors.
John leaves behind his wife, Dawn Cockerill Schramm, Daughters, Sydney and Madison, Dog, Lola; siblings: Lawrence Schramm III (Helene), Terry Petriccione (John), Elizabeth Glowacki (Pat) and Joanne Ruiz (Eddie), several nieces and nephews.
A Visitation for friends and family will be on Sunday, December 22 from 2-5 PM and a Funeral Service at 5 PM. A burial will be private at a later date.
In lieu of flowers make a donation to Toys for Tots in his name.
