Obituary of Harry B. Groff, Sr.

Harry B. Groff, Sr., 93, husband to the late Mary Joan Groff, passed away Tuesday, December 24, 2024, at Pottstown Hospital. He was born in Norristown, PA January 21, 1931 to the late William and Emma (Keplinger) Groff and was one of seven children.  The Groff family moved to Arcola, PA in 1947 when Harry was 16 years old.  After marrying, Harry and Joan made their home and raised their family in Arcola.

Harry served in the active-duty US Army and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War.  He subsequently served in the Army Reserve.  After receiving his GED in 1976 he obtained the necessary promotion allowing him to enter the Army Reserve as a full-time career.  Harry retired and was honorably discharged in 1991 after almost 39 years of combined active duty and reserves and had achieved the rank of Master Sergeant E8.  

After retirement Harry enjoyed working as Postmaster Reserve at the Arcola Post Office.  He was an active member of the Green Tree Church of the Brethren, serving as Deacon and on various committees and as a Youth Group leader. He was also active in the Audubon Oaks Lions Club. Together with his wife Joan, Harry enjoyed participating in Revolutionary War reenactments. Their group participated in activities at Fort Mifflin in Philadelphia as well as many other sites around the Northeast and were invited to participate in Bastille Days in France.

Harry is survived by his four children: Judith Slinkard (Steve Hall), Harry B. Jr. (Donna), Robert A. (Joy) and Edmund B. (Ruth); two remaining siblings: George Groff, (Chris) and Donald Groff; 13 Grandchildren, 18 Great Grandchildren.  He is predeceased by four siblings: Jane Henschel, Alice Smith, William Groff and Richard Groff.

A Visitation will be held at Green Tree Church of the Brethren, 1078 Egypt Road, Oaks Saturday, January 4, 2025 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 am at the Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Green Tree Church of the Brethren, or any other charitable organization that you choose.
