John M. Gill, 91, formally of Collegeville, PA, and Wilmington DE died Saturday, May 16, 2015 in Southeastern Veterans Center, Spring City.
He was born in Caln Township to the late Norwood and the late Velma (Warden) Gill. John was raised in the Malvern area and graduated from Berwyn High School in 1934.
John was an assistant foreman retiring in 1986 with almost 40 years of service from Superior Tube, Collegeville. He was an avid dancer, including Ballroom and Square dancing. He also enjoyed woodworking and helping at his local Senior Center. John loved baseball and even played in high school.
He served our country during World War II as an Airplane Sheet Metal Worker in the Army Air Corps. He participated in the Battles of Normandy, Northern France and the Air Offensive Europe.
Predeceased by his wives: Betty J. Moyer and Helen Pierson; brother George Gill, sister-in-law Frances Gill and son-in-law Kenneth Crawford. Survived by two daughters: Patricia Cofer (Bob) of Havertown, Carol Crawford of Frederick, PA; and two sons: John Jr. (Sharon) of Schwenksville; Robert (April) of Phoenix, Arizona; and sister, Ann Patterson of Malvern; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; a niece, Shirley Patterson and nephew, Don Gill.
A private graveside service will be held Monday, June 1, 2015 in Cochranville Methodist Church Cemetery, Cochranville, PA. Arrangements are being handled by Shalkop, Grace & Strunk Funeral Home, Spring City, PA 19475. www.sgsfuneralhome.com
