Obituary of Pasqualino Capeci

Dr. Pasqualino Capeci Jr., 79, passed away on Saturday, November 28th after a lengthy battle with leukemia. Known by friends as “Doc,” he was a loving husband, father and professionally the Vice President of a local university and an ordained minister of with the Assemblies of God in the New Jersey District. Dr. Capeci was born in Troy, New York, to the late Pasqualino and the late Sundie (Palmieri) Capeci. He attended high school in Mechanicville, New York, where he played basketball as a member of the “Wiz Kids,” which won the Class B State Championship in 1952. Following high school he attended Eastern Bible Institute (now University of Valley Forge), where he met his future bride, Ruth Farrington. After graduating from EBI, Pat and Ruth moved to Vermont where he served as a pastor of Brandon Baptist Church. In 1961, Pat earned a bachelor’s degree from Roberts Wesleyan College near Rochester, NY. He went on to earn a master’s degree from the State University of New York (SUNY) Brockport and a doctorate in education from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He taught fifth and sixth grade at Balston Spa and Mechanicville elementary schools in New York and was a principal for an elementary school in Springfield Vermont. Pat was named Dean of Administrative Affairs at Berkshire Community College in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. During his tenure at BCC, Doc was responsible for setting up the college’s satellite facility in South Berkshire County. He was also elected to serve a term as the president of the National Council of Community College Business Officials. After retiring from BCC, Pat and Ruth moved to Phoenixville, PA where he worked as the Executive Vice President of Administrative Services for the University of Valley Forge. In that role he was responsible for much of the physical transformation of the campus He finished his time at UVF as a faculty member in the Business Department. Pat Capeci, an ordained minister with the Assemblies of God New Jersey District, also demonstrated his love for God through service to the Christian community. Through the years he taught Sunday school, served on church boards, counseled members in financial stewardship, and provided financial advice to churches. He is leaving behind Ruth, his loving wife of 59 years, and 2 sons: Jonathan (wife Debbie) of Spring City, and P. David (wife Janine) of Harleysville. He also leaves seven grandchildren and one sister: Patricia Beretta of Moorestown, New Jersey. Rachael Beretta his other sister preceded him in death. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 19, 2015, in Flower Chapel on the campus of the University of Valley Forge, 1401 Charlestown Rd., Phoenixville, PA. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in Flower Chapel, prior to the memorial service. A private burial will be held in New York.
