Obituary of Richard D Gillam

Richard David Gillam age 50, of Phoenixville PA passed away during the early morning hours of Tuesday March 2, 2010 at his home. Mr. Gillam was born to Margaret Miller in Chester County, PA on August 15, 1959. He was a 1978 graduate of Phoenixville High School and West Chester University in 1983 with a B.A. in Criminal Justice. His first love was the game of basketball. After scoring 1000 plus points at Phoenixville High, Rick went on to earn Division II All-American honors in college. He was later inducted to the West Chester Hall of Fame for scoring over 2000 points for the Rams. From 1984 to 2001 Richard worked as a patrol officer and then as a juvenile detective for the West Norriton Police Department. Richard is survived by his son Jeremy and daughter Courtney. And his brothers: Ed, Mike, Ron and Jimmy, and Kevin, and sisters: Donna, Tracy and Tina. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service on Sunday March 7, 2010 at 5pm at the Shalkop Grace & Strunk Funeral Home Bridge and Church Streets Spring City. His viewing will be Sunday from 3 to 5pm at the funeral home. Memorial gifts may be made in his memory to the Ricky Gillam Hoop Scholarship Fund payable to Phoenixville Federal Bank and Trust PO Box 1046 Kimberton PA 19442-1046. The scholarship will be available to members of the PAHS basketball program.
