Obituary of Evelyn M O'Connor

Evelyn M. O'Connor passed away early in the morning on Wednesday, April 13, 2011 in the Chester County Hospital in West Chester, PA. Evelyn was a long-time resident of Spring City and graduated from Spring City High School, class of 1946. Evelyn was active in sports, her favorite being field hockey. Evelyn was born Evelyn M. Hanebury, daughter of Clarence William and Sarah Elizabeth (MacRae) Hanebury, on May 20, 1928 in Raynham, Massachusetts. She later attended elementary school in Ottawa, Canada and moved to Spring City at the age of ten. Evelyn enjoyed doing the jitter-bug at the Polka-Dot on Main Street in Spring City, where she met her long time love James W. O'Connor. They were married in the Spring City United Methodist Church on June 11, 1949 after James returned from his Naval duty on the U.S.S. Alabama during WWII. Evelyn was preceded in death by her sister, Eunice Snyder, and her brother, William Hanebury. She is survived by her husband, Jim O'Connor, and her two daughters, Linda Jones and Beth Stepanik and their husbands Ken Jones and Mark Stepanik. Also surviving are her four grandchildren, Mandi Spriggs (husband Aaron Spriggs), Kimberly Jones, Chad Stepanik, and Natalie Stepanik, and one great-grandson, Dylan James Spriggs. Her Memorial service will be held on Monday april, 18, 2011 at 11:00am at the Shalkop Grace & Strunk Funeral Home, Bridge and Church Streets Spring City PA. The rev. Kerry Bart will officiate. Interment will be private. Friends may vcall Monday morning from 10:30-11:00am at the funeral home.
