Dear Clemens Family,
I am so sorry I am writing this over a year after Lenny's passing. I just saw the Memoriam on the Mercury website today. I have lived in central Pennsylvania for many years, and look at the Mercury online from time to time. I did not know that Lenny passed away. I was totally saddened and shocked.
I played against Lenny in Spring City Little League. I played for the Phillies and he played for the Indians juggernaut. I was probably the only pitcher in the history of the league to give up back-to-back homers. Lenny and Bob Stone went yard on me!
I then played in the Phoenixville Babe Ruth League and Norchester Jr. Legion. Oh...and I played for St. Pius X in high school. I was a well-traveled local ballplayer. In 1976 and '77, I became Lenny's teammate at Spring City Legion. It was a real pleasure playing ball with Lenny. I remember him as a tough, hard-nosed player. He definitely had that football player/wrestler mentality on the baseball field. I look back on those two years with the fondest of memories, playing under Mr. Seislove and with Lenny and all of the other Spring-Ford guys. It made me wish I had gone to Spring-Ford rather than Pius.
I would like to express my deepest condolences on Lenny's passing.
