My deepest sympathy to the family of Henry Bernat. I graduated in 1962 from Owen J. Roberts High School. I was fortunate to have Mr. Bernat for Biology and my class advisor. Interestingly enough my father, James (Bugs) Moyer taught him Biology. We often talked about the coincidence of that. Wishing you peaceful memories to get you through this difficult time.

Dear Bernat Family,
I just wanted to express my condolences for your loss. Hank and Dot meant a great deal to my parents, Reg and Pat, they were friends for the better part of 50 years and especially loved their travel adventures together. One of Reg’s favorite rituals was his weekly phone call with Hank to discuss sports and the affairs of the world. I always enjoyed my time together with both Hank and Dot as they were always in good spirits and fun to be around.
Regards,
Todd Colvard

Mr Bernat, a man who I admired and respected so much. A legend. A hero. An inspiration. He touched the lives of so many. I will miss my visits, our talks about sports and which dessert I will make and bring out next. (I still have the blueberry cheesecakes in the freezer you told me to hold for ya) My heart goes out to the family, but to his daughter Lisa, my best friend of 53 yrs.,his sidekick, his date, and the one who took the best care of him. I will always be here for you GF. I can go way back to our family vacations at the shore, our parents Wednesday night gatherings so Lisa and I could go roller skating LOL, the football games, and so much more. There is a lot in 50 plus years our families did together. There are so many great memories that I have and will cherish. Mr Bernat you are at peace now and with the love of your life Dorothy in heaven. I’m sure Coop and Annuch had a beer waiting for you too. Another Angel in Heaven. I will miss you Mr. Bernat. RIP. Hey Gene and Family. So so sorry. What a great man your Pop was. I loved him like a father. Only a few men have influenced my life so much for the good. My Dad 1st and then Coach Bernat. Some of the greatest memories of my life are with him. I know he’s at piece.

I'm not sure how to start this but I do know how I feel. You have been one of the most influential men in my life from the time when I was in elementary school watching my hero's with the red helmets and listening to my dad tell me stories of the young Henry who coached him. I saw you win championships and then finally got to be on the team. I think I finally got you to agree to kick extra points. As your player I learned to play for my family, my community, my school and my team, but never just for myself. I was lucky enough for you to let me help coach later on. Some of the best times of my life. The big hand on my shoulder after practice as I helped you up the hill or steps without anyone knowing. I got to be able to consider you a friend but could never call you anything but coach. Whether or not you knew it everyone who I have ever influenced has been influenced by you, I guess that might be the best thing I can say. I am sad and I will miss you. As you always said, we only need 4 yards at a time to move forward so that's I what I will do. Love you Coach

Growing up I used to watch the legendary teams coached by Coach Bernat and couldn’t wait to be the next player to play for the legend. For many reasons, I didn’t try out for the team my sophomore and junior years. I regret that everyday. I finally went out for the team my senior year and a week before the 1st game I worked myself into the starting line-up. Coach Bernat pulled me aside and told me he believed in me.
That belief changed my life forever. I started every game that year and it was all because of Coach Bernat. Through the years, I used to see him and he would tell me how proud he was of the person I became. It was an honor to have played for you Coach. You touched so many lives and helped mold so many players into the men they are today. I am forever grateful.
